Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine whether xerostomia could improve the level of neuropathic pain. To conduct the study, the change in c-fos expression level in the medulla oblongata was confirmed by xerostomia induction using the chronic neuropathic facial pain model.

Methods: mal-positioned dental implant surgery was performed on the extraction site of the mandibular second molar of rats, and 4-diphenylacetoxy-N- methylpiperidine (4-DAMP) (30mg/kg) was injected intraperitoneally after a pain test on the 4th day after surgery. c-fos was counted only in the lamina I and II regions.

Results: A significant increase in c-fos expression was observed when the maxilla was stimulated compared to the mandible in the group induced both neuropathy and xerostomia.

Conclusions: Therefore, it is considered that xerostomia in the facial area is the cause of the expression of chronic pain and the improvement of pain sensation.
